History of Oktoberfest!

Guten Tag, Larkies! 🍻

Ready to dive into the frothy history of Oktoberfest? 🍺 Hold onto your lederhosen, because we're about to drop some knowledge on the reason for the 'Wiesn!

Did you know the first Oktoberfest was a royal party? 👑 It all started in 1810 to celebrate the marriage of Bavaria's crown prince and Princess Therese in Munich. Talk about a wedding bash - it lasted two weeks and ended with a 5-day horse race! 🐎 The royal lovebirds had such a blast, they decided to make it an annual shindig.

In 1811, they spiced things up by adding a state agricultural fair. 🚜 A few years later, food booths and beer vendors joined the party, and voilà - Oktoberfest as we know it had started to take off!

Today, it's the world's biggest and most popular Volksfest, with over 7 million visitors raising their steins in Munich. 🍻 Can't make it to Germany? No worries! The largest Oktoberfest outside Deutschland is in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, with a whopping 700k attendees. Prost to that! 🇨🇦 Oktoberfest is now celebrated in more than 18 countries on 6 continents.

Fun fact: Oktoberfest isn't just in October! 🗓️ Since 1819, it's kicked off in mid-September for warmer, sunnier weather. The 16-day extravaganza starts on a Saturday and wraps up on the first Sunday in October. So mark your calendars and get ready to say "O'zapft is!" (It's tapped!)
